Comment
AO1: Expression, though sometimes lacking fluency, is mostly clear. Addresses the topic but tends to deal with 'class' and 'gender' separately with little synthesis and there is little attention to Jane's experience as compared to any 'other woman in the text'.
AO2: There is a fairly sustained response to the bounds of 'class' and 'gender', though it isn't much developed beyond a narrative of what is obviously present in the novel. There are only a few, mostly implicit, comments on language and no detailed textual commentary, although the answer does have a few helpful integrated quotations.
AO3: There is little consideration of alternative interpretations, though there is awareness that they might need to be addressed.
AO4: There is some contextual detail in the first paragraph, which addresses the question of what it might mean to be 'liberated', but it is not integrated into the remainder of the essay or returned to. Comes close to simply dropping historical and biographical material into the start of the essay and not returning to it. There is some awareness of ways different audiences might react.
For a B grade
- AO1: Tighter focus on the argument and answer all parts of the question.
- AO2: Developed account of narrative form and structure with attention to language, including more integrated quotations from the text.
- AO3: More consideration of relevant alternative interpretations.
- AO4: Better use of contextual factors directly relevant to the question.
