Comment

At the heart of this essay are some interesting ideas, but there is little real understanding or exploration of them. The candidate begins to explore how Fate might mean different things to different characters, but without clear, thoughtful explanation the ideas become muddled. Quotations are used reasonably well, and there is an attempt to place the play in some sort of context but it is all rather disjointed.

For a C grade

  • AO1: Work on expression: use appropriate literary terms in a professional-sounding way.
  • AO2: Make sure that a language term is not just ‘thrown in’ – explore its relevance and link it to other ideas.
  • AO3: Refer to critical ideas with more precision, perhaps by naming a critic or explaining his or her view in more detail.
  • AO4: Make sure contextual references are directly relevant to the point made and are fully explored.
