Comment
This response shows a simple, generalised grasp of events and characters, and is loosely directed towards answering the question, though the key-term ‘identity’ doesn’t quite come into focus. There is little suggestion of linguistic patterning and no analysis of it. It shows broad awareness of social context and establishes potentially useful links between the texts. The response shows no awareness of other readings or critical interpretations and so will not gain marks for AO5; and is written in a rather informal style at times.
For a Mid Level
- Construct an argument that develops, not just a list of themes, paying closer attention to the terms of the question.
- Show more awareness of the text as a written work that uses literary techniques which can be read using different critical interpretations.
- Use close reference not merely to back up points, but to clarify and develop them.
- Include a conclusion that pulls together the argument and makes the viewpoint clear.
