Comment
The essay makes some promising points, making some use of evidence and contextual detail. However, the vocabulary is simple and the language is often too informal, awkward or unclear. Evidence is provided but only occasionally in the form of embedded quotations and usually with insufficient analysis. There is also some retelling of the story. There is no effort to relate the points deduced from the extract to the novel as a whole. The conclusion gives a summary but it is simplistic and rather generalised.
For A Mid Level:
- Write more fluently, in a consistently appropriate formal register.
- Make better use of quotations and give fuller analysis of textual effects, especially language.
- Link the evidence of the extract with relevant evidence throughout the novel.
