Comment

This is an excellent response that makes thematic and structural links about the relationship between Pip and Magwitch. It shows strong understanding of Dickens’s literary techniques such as juxtaposition and imagery. It is expressed clearly and quotations are embedded in the text.

For Grades 8–9

  • Avoid using informal language like ‘really horrible’.
  • Give more evidence for Wemmick’s ‘paternal role’.
  • Conclude response more effectively by returning to key word of ‘relationships’.
